Introduction
This training course is designed to build in-depth awareness and confidence among those responsible for organizational safety and resilience. The focus is on understanding the evolving landscape of natural hazards, recognizing organizational exposure at a high level, and appreciating the importance of well-structured preparedness and response arrangements.

The course introduces participants to the key concepts, considerations, and organizational components that underpin effective readiness. Participants will gain clarity on why robust emergency planning, response protocols, policies, training, and performance measurement are essential—and how these elements work together to support workforce protection and operational continuity. Participants will also have the opportunity to put their theoretical knowledge into practice through a strong simulation exercise.

Goal
The goal of this course is to enable participants to develop an informed, strategic understanding of security and health risks caused by natural hazards and the organizational responsibilities associated with it. Participants will leave with the awareness and foundational knowledge needed to engage confidently in internal discussions, identify when expert input is required, and support the development of resilient, well-governed preparedness arrangements.

Learning objectives
On successful completion of the course, participants will have the required knowledge, skills and information to:

1. Identify Natural Hazard Trends - Develop a broad understanding of how natural hazards are evolving—from traditional, predictable patterns to more complex and interconnected events—and what this means for organizational risk awareness.
   
2. Recognize Organizational Exposure - Identify the types of operational, workforce, and logistical vulnerabilities that natural hazards can create and understand the importance of capturing interdependencies within existing risk frameworks.
   
   
3. Understand Workforce Protection Principles - Gain awareness of how natural hazards can impact employee health, safety, and wellbeing, and appreciate the role of sound governance, clear responsibilities, and appropriate escalation pathways within preparedness arrangements.
   
   
4. Navigate Compliance through Relevant Standards and Expectations - Build a high-level understanding of how natural-hazard preparedness aligns with broader ISO management system principles and emerging global best practices—without requiring technical expertise or specialist interpretation. ISO standards reference include: ISO 22301 (Business Continuity), ISO 45001 (OH&S), ISO 31000 (Risk Management) and ISO/PAS 45007 (OH&S & Climate Change)
   
   
5. Understand the Components of Effective Preparedness - Understand the core organizational elements that contribute to readiness—including planning, communication, training, and performance review—and why these need to be robust, integrated, and regularly maintained.
   
   
6. Assess Organizational Readiness at a High Level - Apply course concepts in a facilitated scenario to reflect on strengths, potential gaps, and priority areas for improvement within existing organizational preparedness, without replacing the need for professional assessment or technical consultancy.
